The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos is traditionally celebrated on November 1-2 (shortly after many celebrate Halloween). Over the course of two nights, the dead are believed to rise from their resting places and visit with the living. Memories of those who have passed come alive, and relatives prepare special foods, decorations, and of course, libations. Flowers, candy skulls, and favorite things to drink are offered to spirits of loved ones – and tequila has its time and place. Piedra Azul Tequila was kind enough to provide a candy skull and bottle of their authentic white tequila with Frachelli to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Also here’s a fun recipe for an appropriately themed cocktail called the Vampira…
1 ½ ounces Piedra Azul Blanco (100% Blue Agave)
1 ounce Clamato
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Mexican Squirt or other Grapefruit Soda
Lemon wheel or wedge garnish
Fill a 10-ounce glass with ice. Scatter salt on the ice, then pour in the tequila, hot sauce, Clamato, and lemon juice. Top up the glass with grapefruit soda and stir gently. Garnish with lemon and serve immediately.
