To the young guys out there: one day you might be driving a mini-van so make sure you own an impractical car at least once in your life. To the older guys out there: Aren’t you tired of being practical?
However old you are, the Lotus Exige will make you feel like a kid when you’re behind the wheel. This track-carving-scalpel-on -wheels seats two and loves to be driven. As a result of only weighing only 2k lbs the car is lightning quick and nimble. It only takes 240 hp to hit 0-60 in 4 seconds, and that quickness can be used through the turns thanks to the cars extraordinary suspension. Regardless of what speed you’re going, you’ll still feel like a race car driver in the Exige. It’s low to the ground, small, loud and stripped to the essentials – constantly reminding you that you got a special car for $65k.
There’s no crime in listening to the radio or downloading mainstream music. However, every once in a while you need to treat yourself to something a little more “out there” and eccentric. Black Moth Super Rainbow is an experimental group that blends synths, vocoder vocals, and live instruments into tasty cocktail of psychedelic punch. While their tunes can be considered “trippy” they are also often very melodic. I recommend the album Dandelion Gum, of which, my favorite track is Forever Heavy. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will hit US theaters May 28th. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean) and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, the film looks very promising – especially for a movie based on a video game. I know that Frachelli recently did a sunglasses feature, but it’s summer and I got some new ones! I am absolutely loving my Ray-Ban Tech sunglasses and have been receiving many compliments. I went all out with this pair; they have polarized lenses and carbon fiber temples making them lightweight, comfortable, and great to look through. They were a bit expensive for a working stiff like me, but sometimes it’s better to look like a million bucks than to have it.
If you want to have a great day at the rifle range, bring a Bushmaster. The Bushmaster AR-15 rifles are highly accurate semi-automatic firearms that are built to last. The guns are easy to shoot and with very little recoil, they can be used all day without a bruised shoulder (unlike the 30-30 I reviewed). Shown is a carbine version, but they come several models with varying barrel lengths, stocks and etc. They will all shoot great, but I do recommend a flat-top receiver so you can easily swap out your rear sites/optics. Out of my small collection, my Bushmaster is my favorite rifle.
Audi entered the supercar league when they introduced the R8 a few short years ago. The latest edition is the topless 5.2 Spyder which has a 525 hp V10 engine. Available with a paddles-shift auto or gated 6 speed the car will tantalize with either transmission and be sure to turn heads with it’s beauty. 0-60 is achieved in a short 4 seconds and with the top down people will see the smile on your face as your ripping through the gears. The R8 5.2 Spyder is based off the the Lamborghini Gallardo platform and is as stunning to look at as it is to drive. Starting around $160k it’s not cheap but tame compared to the price tag of a Ferrari. For a savings of around $50k you can get a hardtop R8 4.2 – at an expense of two cylinders and 105 hp.
There are some comedies that get funnier every time you watch them and Forgetting Sarah Marshall falls in that category. This balls-out hilarious movie is about a pour soul who is dumped by his girlfriend and runs into her with a new rock star boyfriend, whilst vacationing and trying to get over her. Russel Brand plays Aldous Snow, the rocker and “other guy,” and every word that comes out of his mouth makes me pee my pants. Warning: when I mentioned balls-out, there are some scenes where the main character (played by Jason Segel) really has them hanging out. The unrated Blu-ray version is only $12.49 on Amazon so grab it at this great price.
If you are trying to pull of a business casual outfit, a fitted shirt will really help. Without a sports jacket or suit to cover your upper body, you don’t want your shirt “poofing” out all over the place. Especially if you are a guy with a small frame like me, it’s hard to find a button down shirt that doesn’t look baggy. Express makes some excellent and reasonably priced fitted shirts. As usual, it’s a collection of some of the world’s most beautiful women wearing close to nothing – done in a tasteful fashion. An interesting feature of this year’s issue is a collection of smoking hot girlfriends and wives of pro soccer players with sexy “uniforms” painted onto their naked bodies. Need I say more?
