Sometimes you want to take great pictures without the hassle of carrying a large camera. Canon makes excellent pocket-sized digital cameras that really pack a punch. The Cannon PowerShot model pictured above (SD 1400 IS Digital Elph) weighs only 4.6 ounces, yet has a 4x zoom and has a 14.1 megapixel resolution. And I remember when 5 megapixel was a big deal! The picture in the Mercedes CL 500 post was taken with my Canon PowerShot, my second Canon digital camera. My older camera was donated to my parents and it’s still working marvelously for them. After getting tons of great pictures and years of durability out of Canon products, I highly recommend the new PowerShot at a reasonable $249.

Evan Rachel Wood. I’m sold. Evan Rachel Wood beautifully singing Beatles songs. I’ll take two.  Fellas, Across the Universe is a great date movie. She’ll be impressed when you pop in a “musical” and you’ll actually enjoy the flick (assuming you like Evan Rachel Wood and the Beatles half as much as I do). The film also doubles as an excellent Beatles cover album – so you can leave it on in the background while attending to work or other tasks, making it a great purchase.

Even if you’ve never played guitar, it’s not too late to start. There are few things as rewarding as ripping through a riff of your favorite rock song or nailing a cool solo when jamming in your friends garage. Just like everything else, practice makes perfect. As exemplified by the likes of Hendrix, Clapton, and Vaughan, a Fender guitar can produce a wide range of tones and emotions – and they sound damn good doing it. Owning an American Strat is owning a piece of art, history, engineering, and American craftsmanship. Pictured above is the Highway One series American Stratocaster, one of two Fender guitars I proudly own and love to play.

When something is done right, it really holds up. The iconic shape of the Porsche 911 is still leaving the production line and awing car enthusiasts after 40+ years. Always being the benchmark for road-going sports cars, Porsche does not disappoint with the new 2010 Turbo. The 911 model line saw a slight refresh in 2009 with increased power, small styling and cosmetic changes, and better fuel efficiency. If the standard or S models don’t raise enough hairs, then step into the Turbo and hold on tight. The twin-turbocharged six cylinder boxer engine produces a frightening 500 hp and 480 ft.-lbs of torque, and when matched with the optional PDK transmission it will rocket the car to 60 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds. With a starting price of $133k (expect to pay a lot more with any options) and a top speed of 194 mph you will be the envy of every male you whiz past on the highway.

Constantly barraged by fitness ads in magazines and television it’s hard to tell what’s a gimmick or not. While I look nothing like the guy on the commercial when I take my shirt off, I will say that the Perfect Pushup is a great item. Easily thrown in a closet or put under your bed they won’t consume massive amounts of space like most fitness equipment. The rotating handles create added difficulty to the age-old exercise and hit even more muscles in your upper body. Do a few sets a day to relieve stress and tone up.

Even if you’re a bachelor that lives off of leftover pizza and happy hour  , it’s always good to have a quality knife set. Whether you’re chopping up a rotisserie chicken you picked up at the market or preparing a meal it’s important to have the proper blade. Even if you rarely eat at home, having the knife block will impress guests. Also, if you buy a quality set such as Henckels, they won’t ever go bad so you’ll have them when you settle down to a more traditional lifestyle.

The release of the much anticipated and discussed Apple iPad is around the corner. What at first glance is a giant iPhone or iPod touch, many are questioning what is the point of this thing? As an iPhone game developer and avid user, I can tell you that the large 9.7 inch screen is going to add even more gaming capabilities to the already awesome iPhone platform. I also foresee myself using the device as a portable media player and using more advanced applications than that on my iPhone. While the small size of the iPhone is ideal for travel, I picture myself updating spreadsheets and whizzing through emails on an iPad while riding a commuter train. The iPad is also going to be a direct competitor of e-readers such as the Amazon Kindle. There have always been skeptics of Apple’s products and I believe that the iPad doubters will be eating their words within a few years. Apple has surpassed Wal-Mart as the largest retailer of music and has already obtained 19% of the mobile gaming market. I’m willing to bet that they’ll sell a few books on the iPad too.

You can pre-order an iPad on www.apple.com with free home delivery. Prices range from $499 for the 16gb model with Wi-Fi to $829 for a 36gb w/ 3G.

I was one of the early followers of Gorillaz when their self-titled first album was released in 2001. I’ll admit, the first time I heard the album I only thought it was OK. A few more listens and I was hooked. I was equally impressed by their second album Demon Days and now once again by Plastic Beach. This new album features various artists including Mos Def and Snoop Dog, but it is certainly not a rap or hip/hop album. It is a greatly orchestrated and produced album with a great mix of musical styles and countless layers. The track Glitter Freeze sounds like it could be played between face-offs at hockey game and the last two tracks sounds like they are scores from serious Hollywood movies. When downloaded from iTunes you’ll receive the music video for the track Stylo that features a famous actor (no spoilers here).  My favorite track was Empire Ants which sounds like Radiohead’s and Enya’s love-child. Like my first experience with the Gorillaz nine years ago, the album took a few listens – but I get more impressed each time.

A certified pre-owned Mercedes can have you driving in luxury and style without devastating your bank account as terribly as a new model off the lot. Pictured is a 2006 CL 500 purchased last summer that is in mint condition and still under warranty. The purchase price was less than half the sticker! I’ve had the pleasure of driving the car and one word comes to mind: comfort. The front seats are essentially La-Z-Boys with seat belts: infinitely adjustable, heated and cooled, and even feature a pulsing massage. Even though the car is a coupe, the rear comfortably seats two adults, adding practicability and use. Don’t let the two doors fool you, this car is big. Powered by a V8 the car drives like a dream, absorbing pot holes and greatly blocking out road and exterior noises. Switching to sport mode stiffens up the suspension and lets the engine rev higher before shifts. Just in case you’re in a hurry. Interior amenities are virtually endless and there are too many to list. The fore-mentioned seats, leather, wood trim, navigation, dual climate control, and excellent sound system remind you why everyone wants to drive a Benz. I took a date out for a spin in this car and when we arrived at our destination she said, “do we have to get out?”

Being one of the most popular comedies in the last decade, odds are you’ve seen The Hangover and the antics of four guys during a bachelor party gone loco in Las Vegas.  What you may not have seen is the Unrated Edition on Blu-ray which features an additional eight minutes of side-splitting scenes. There are several extras on the disc, including more photos from the missing camera which retell the wild night that none of them seem to remember. The Hangover is hilarious and has plenty of replay value. Even if you’ve seen it ten times, don’t miss out on the extras.
